The History of National Parks
The history behind establishing National Parks began in the United States of America around 150 years ago. The government decided it needed to protect large areas of land on the continent for the future. As a result, the American government founded the very first National Parks. The first to be established was Yellowstone National Park in 1872. It proved such a popular idea that National Parks were established all over the world!
The concept and importance of National Parks has now spread all over the world with more than 6,500 having now been established on every continent with more being added to the list every year.
