About the Carneddau Landscape Partnership project

A partnership of organisations is developing a project to help people discover, record, care for and celebrate the Carneddau with the help of a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund. It will do this by providing new ways of learning about the area, better information, events and activities, resources for schools and young people, skills training, access improvements and grants for landscape conservation works

Agriculture is a very important aspect of the Carneddau. The landscape of area has been shaped by 1000s of years of farming of different kinds and this is reflected in its cultural heritage of place names, traditions and stories.

What we hope to offer

The scheme will record and celebrate this cultural heritage, but also help with conservation of some of the area’s most characteristic features, such as multicellular sheepfolds, mountain/ffridd boundary walls and hedgerows. There will be a grant fund for these elements and for other initiatives including improving riverside corridors, ffridd habitats, meadows, small-scale tree planting, repairs to eroded peatland and removal of invasive species such as rhododendron.
If you are interested in any of these please come along!

Project area

The project area is 210 km2 and includes high mountains as well as the settlement fringes and valley sides around them; see the attached map.
