Seven Wonders of Snowdonia
25 July 2019
Ever wondered where some of our favourite places are in the National Park? Take a look at our staff's Seven Wonders of Snowdonia.
Name - Awel Gruffydd
Position - Centres Commercial Manager
Live in - Llanrwst
Favourite place in the Park? - Rhiwddolion
Why? - The abandoned village above Betws y coed is like stepping back in time. It's a memory of a past community and a piece of local history.
Name - Catrin Glyn
Position - Snowdon Partnership Officer
Lives in - Llanuwchllyn
Favourite place in the Park? - Moel Lefn and Moel yr Ogof
Why? - Moel Lefn and Moel yr Ogof are rarely walked peaks above the beautiful Cwm Pennant in north-western Snowdonia. This walk includes some wonderful industrial remains from the slate industry together with relative solitude to enjoy wide ranging views over many summits in western Snowdonia including Snowdon itself.
Name - Guto Williams
Position - System Support Officer
Lives in - Penygroes
Favourite place in the Park? - Llyn Tegid
Why? - Llyn Tegid is much more than just the foreshore, there are many blissful spots that has fantastic views of sunsets.
Name - Jonathan Cawley
Position - Director of Planning and Land Management
Lives in - Llanrwst
Favourite place in the Park? - Afon Conwy
Why? - Without a doubt it's one of the most beautiful rivers in the country that starts in Llyn Conwy at the upper peatlands of the Migneint before dramatically falling through Graig Lwyd waterfall and Anoddun before widening through the Conwy valley to the sea. As a resident of the Conwy valley who enjoys fishing, nature and natural beauty, it is one of the most beautiful and peaceful places I have ever seen.
Name - Llinos Alun
Position - Engagement Officer
Lives in - Gellilydan
Favourite place in the Park? - Ceunant Llennyrch and Rhaeadr Ddu
Why? - I love wandering in this area that has plenty of variation of rare trees and plants. This gorge is like something from a film that has been kept for centuries. The waterfall below is the crown jewel and there's a wonderful pool to swim, don't tell everyone!
Name - Rhys Owain
Position - Planning Technician
Lives in - Caernarfon
Favourite place in the Park? - Nant Ffrancon
Why? - I have golden memories of this place as I spent a lot of time here growing up as a child from Bethesda. The views are majestic!
Name - Simon Roberts
Position - Senior Warden (South)
Lives in - Cricieth
Favourite place in the Park? - Llanuwchllyn
Why? - There are fantastic views (from Bala towards Llanuwchllyn and the Arans / from Aran Benllyn towards Llanuwchllyn and Llyn Tegid / from Bwlch y Groes towards Penllyn and north Snowdonia in the background). But more than this is the community to have the feeling of relating to somewhere like that is so special. This is my home - and I feel a longing when I'm away but absence makes the heart grow fonder.
