Visiting Snowdonia

Street View 2016

The Google Trekker programme returned to Snowdonia in Autumn 2016. Even more of our fantastic footpaths can now be seen online thanks to the technology of street view.

Since the launch of "Street View" in 2007, Google has travelled far and wide around the world capturing panoramic 360◦ images of the world’s streets. But two years ago, after the company began using the Google Trekker to venture into places that were inaccessible to vehicles, 11 footpaths in Snowdonia were added to the resource including the footpaths on Snowdon that give you the best view in the UK. This was followed in 2016 with another 17 footpaths being recorded for the first time.

With the Google Trekker, a 22kg pack , on their backs and a globe which includes 15 cameras above their heads, volunteers and SNPA staff have again been recording views from Snowdonia for Google Street View. This time however, a wider variety of footpaths were recorded throughout the National Park including some that are suitable for families and are accessible to all.

Below is a short trailer advertising the wider choice of footpaths documented by the Google Trekker this time:-
