It’s almost that time of year again… that time when hundreds of fell runners from the four corners of the earth flock to Llanberis to take part in the Snowdon International Race!

With the longest day now upon us, many will make the most of the extra daylight and head out to enjoy Snowdonia’s countryside and uplands – be it a full day on the mountains, or a couple of hours of fresh air after a day in the office.

A recent project to replace some of the old standard gates on the Pony Path with new hand-crafted gates that are more in-keeping with the traditional mountain gates.

During 2015-16, I decided to build a wall to celebrate the wealth of old names of pools on our local rivers, as part of our responsibility as wardens to safeguard and promote an understanding of our rich cultural heritage. I built it as part of a Grow Wild project to recreate a wildflower garden which, with the help of local schoolchildren and volunteers, is taking shape.

On the evening of Thursday, the 13th October at Plas Tan y Bwlch, following almost two years of work, “Copaon Cymru” saw the light of day for the first time.

Now that the busy summer months are behind us, the Wardens here at Llyn Tegid can now turn their focus to other issues regarding conservation and recreation. Whilst the upgrading of furniture on our Leisure Network and promoted paths will carry on throughout the winter an interesting conservation project has begun to try and understand more about one of the rarest species at Llyn Tegid.

The Snowdon Race is a big day for Llanberis and the surrounding area each year. Hundreds turn out to watch and support the runners starting from the village and to cheer them on their way back down to finish. Many are also seen on the Llanberis path towards Snowdon summit to have a close look at the runners as they do their best to cope with the harsh elements of the race on the mountain.
