Copaon Cymru

14 December 2016

On the evening of Thursday, the 13th October at Plas Tan y Bwlch, following almost two years of work, “Copaon Cymru” saw the light of day for the first time.

What is Copaon Cymru I hear you say? Well, it’s a new publication by the Welsh Mountaineering Club which invites you to walk with fellow club members (yours truly amongst them) on 48 of the best mountain walks in Wales. Everywhere from Snowdonia to the Brecon Beacons, from the Clwydian Range to the Preseli Mountains, and from Plynlimon to ‘The Rivals’. Here you will find detailed descriptions, as well as interesting information panels about each walk. It has been a long process, led by the editor, Eryl Owain - thinking about a walk, going on the walk, measuring and mustering, writing, modifying, re-writing, taking photos.... then seeking an independent walker to follow the instructions and ensure that everything is in order, with any luck!

With over 200 pages, including more than 140 colour photographs and maps for each walk, it's a substantial hardback book, and although I have been involved in the project, I’m delighted with the outcome. We have tried to convey the pleasure and satisfaction that can be found in the mountains and hope that the book will inspire readers to reach new heights.

Ideal for Christmas, and an opportunity to undo the general overindulgence of the festive period by venturing out onto the peaks of Wales or “Copaon Cymru”!

Published by Gwasg Carreg Gwalch and is available at your local bookstore for the reasonable price of £15.
